I think this is a good description of what we're going for. VCME doesn't get "stuck" for lack of a better word at high GR so you can push it harder and still retain some dynamics compared to a typical compressor.To my ears VCME can start out very clean, then goes all the way to quite saturated while still retaining detail and motion while gluing things together.
Re metering: we're working on improvements there now in the VU meter (bigger needle, added ticks + labels) and GR history graph (adding more range options). I think we'll also add a "Max GR" readout like Faraday has. Please let us know if there's anything else you'd like to have.
